Sambucus nigra (Elderberry) Lectin

Sambucus Nigra (elderberry bark) Lectin (SNA, EBL), fluorescein (FITC), is bright green SNA-fluorophore conjugate. ANS belongs to the group of type 2 ribosome-inactivating proteins and is composed of an A chain with enzymatic activity and a B chain with carbohydrate-binding activity.

ANS can induce apoptosis through the caspase-dependent pathway at low concentrations. This effect depends on the binding of B chain carbohydrates and is independent of the catalytic activity of the A chain. In colon cancers, 90% of carcinomas have been reported to express increased levels of sialic acid, linked to residues of galactose on the surface of tumor cells, which is detectable with SNA.

  • Very bright FITC conjugate detected with traditional FITC / GFP filter set, Ex / Em: 495/515 nm
  • Applications: immunofluorescence, glycobiology
  • Specificity of sugar: sialic acid
  • Inhibitor / eluent sugar: lactose 500 mM
  • Blood group specificity: nonspecific, A> B, O
  • The molecular weight of unconjugated lectin: 140 KDa
  • Immunofluorescence working concentration: 5–20 µg / mL

SNA-FITC is provided at a concentration of 2 mg / ml in 10 mM HEPES, 0.15 M NaCl, pH 7.5, 0.08% sodium azide. Ca2 + 0.1 mM.

A precipitate may form during storage. This does not have a significant adverse effect on the product. If a precipitate form during prolonged storage at 4 ° C, warm to 37 ° C and centrifuge before use.
